Just when it seemed like TikTok might be gone from the U.S. for good, many users were surprised to find it back on Apple and Google’s app stores as of February 13th, following a brief ban earlier this year. The app was not available for download for over three weeks, but after Apple and Google received letters from the Justice Department giving them clearance to make the app available again without facing fines, the tech giants quickly restored access for users wishing to download or update the app.

However, the future of the app is still uncertain. When President Trump took office in January, he issued an executive order halting Congress’ ban on the app for a period of 75 days, currently set to expire in early April of this year. In early February, President Trump asked Vice President JD Vance to broker the potential sale prior to the expiration of the ban’s extension. Since the app’s return to online app stores just a few weeks ago, TikTok nor the Trump administration have provided any update on the divestiture of TikTok. With the clock ticking on the ban’s extension and no clear updates from either party, the app’s future in the U.S. remains hanging in the balance.
