Since President Trump extended the TikTok ban’s deadline on April 4th, not much has changed. When asked earlier this month if he would delay the ban again, the president indicated he’d be willing to extend the updated June 19th deadline if ByteDance did not reach a deal in time. They previously backed out of a tentative deal in April ahead of the former deadline following the U.S.’s imposition of up to 145% tariffs on goods imported from China. Now the deal is wrapped up in other substantive negotiations between the U.S. and China, including the heated discussions between the nations surrounding tariffs. As the June deadline continues to approach, the White House has indicated that it is likely that the president will issue another executive order extending the cutoff for an additional 75 days.
